Lift And Carry

One of the simplest ways to exercise just about anywhere is to pick something heavy up and carry it somewhere. It doesn't matter if it is an odd shape, or the weight is unevenly distributed.

Over the last year, I have consistently incorporated some form of carrying into my client's programs. This has certainly had a few raised eyebrows... "why am I carrying this again?".

Thankfully these bewildered looks turn into gratitude later as guys who spend all day at desks or on a plane claim they are standing taller than before. Their wives comment on how they can carry the kids more easily now or carry more shopping than they used to. (I mean food shopping not the Harrods and Selfridges kind).

  • Amazing for burning calories when combined with strength training or part of a conditioning circuit
  • Can be done anywhere. You just need 10-20ft to walk back and forth

A Few Examples

You can even pick up some heavy objects at home or on holiday and experiment.

Try walking under load for either 30 or 60 seconds, or see how far you can carry something.
